Positive material identification testing

The material mix-up inspection, also called Positive Material Inspection (PMI), offers the possibility to identify the metallic material to be tested with little (preparation) effort by comparison with a reference material. 

This inspection technique is typically used in incoming goods inspection. It should be noted that this test leaves a small "analysis spot" on the surface. Testing at a concealed location on the component is advisable.
