Charpy impact testing (-196°C to +250°C)

With the Charpy notched bar impact test (V-notch), the toughness properties of metallic materials and plastics can be determined in the respective defined temperature range. Both, standardised and mini-size specimen sizes are used.

Of great importance is the determination of the toughness ductile-brittle transition. This is typically elaborated by series of tests in the temperature range mentioned.

The test results are the impact energy performed, the fracture type and the ductile-brittle fracture proportion of the fracture surfaces.
