Eddy current testing (ET)

Eddy current testing is typically used to perform the following tests on electrically conductive materials:

• Detection of (sub-)surface indications such as cracks, pores, material separations, etc.
• Layer thickness measurement of organic and inorganic surface coatings

Comparative measurements of the electrical conductivity or permeability of different materials are used to determine different material conditions and compositions (e.g. material inhomogeneities, material hardness, heat treatment differences) as well as for the detection of weld seams and for positive material identification.
